James Cameron, in an interview with Empire magazine said that they had ''too many great ideas packed into act one of movie 2,” adding, “The [film] was moving like a bullet train, and we weren’t drilling down enough on character. So I said, ‘Guys, we’ve got to split it.’” This led to the creation of the second part, Avatar: The Way of Water.𒈔 He also revealed that the third instalment will be a little bit longer than the second one, which had a runtime of three hours and 12 minutes.
Amanda Silver, the co-writer of the script with Cameron and Rick Jaffa, said that Fire and Ash🤪 is a separate film from the second one because the story goes beyond just action and visual spectacle.
🔯Talking about the thought process behind the characters, he said that the depth was drawn from his personal experience. Cameron said, “These characters are amalgams of us, our childhoods, our role as parents, the mistakes we made, and probably to some extent continue to make as parents''.
♔Giving examples, he added, “I mean, Jake is a hard-ass motherfucker. He’s very hard on his kids. Well, that’s me.”
🦩Rick said he gave a lot of himself into Jake’s middle child, Lo’ak. He said, “A good friend of mine who saw Way Of Water — a woman I grew up with — wrote to me after she’d seen it and said that the relationship between Lo’ak and Neteyam reminded her of the relationship I had with my older brother.”
Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña are reprising their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri in Avatar 3🌼. Other cast members include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Bailey Bass, Jack Champion, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao and Edie Falco, among others. Oona Chaplin, who will play the leader of the Ash People, is the new cast member. David Thewlis is also the new addition.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to hit the screens on December 19, 2025, followed by Avatar 4 and Avatar 5♛, which are scheduled to release in 2029 and 2031.
