Weather Forecast: Srinagar Airport Cancels All Flights; Delhi Records Wettest December In 27 Years

𓃲A yellow alert remains in place for Delhi after the national capital recorded its wettest December in 27 years. Meanwhile in Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar airport has grounded all flights due to bad weather conditions.

﷽Incessant rain continued to lash parts of Delhi-NCR on Saturday after the city recorded its highest rainfall in a single day in December in 27 years. Delhi recorded 41.2 mm of rain in 24 hours till 8.30 am on Sunday.

ಞFurthermore, Srinagar airport has cancelled all flights for the day owing to bad weather conditions.

Jammu and Kashmir: Roads and Flights Affected

♐In Jammu and Kashmir, the fresh snowfall caused widespread disruptions. The plains, including Srinagar, received up to three inches of snow, while higher-altitude areas like Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Pahalgam also saw heavy snowfall. Heavy Snowfall caused the closure of both the Srinagar-Leh Highway and the Mughal Road, while traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was also disrupted, leaving approximately 1,000 vehicles stranded, as per the reports.

🏅Meanwhile,Today's minimum temperature in Kashmir is recorded -4°c (degrees celsius), and the maximum temrature is expected to go as high as 7°c (degrees celsius).

༺Srinagar Airport has also cancelled all flights for the day due to bad weather conditions. "Due to bad weather conditions, all flights at Srinagar Airport have been cancelled. Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for updates. We regret the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding," read the official statement.

Delhi Rains Improve AQI, Yellow Alert Issued

✱Amid the rain, Delhi's air quality improved significantly. According to Central Pollution Control Board, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital was recorded at 179 at 9 am on Saturday.

ꦦThe India Meteorological Department has issued a 'yellow' alert for the weekend, predicting "light rain/ thunderstorms". In December 2024, Delhi logged 42.8 mm, the highest in the last 27 years, as per the reports.

ꦚOn Friday, Delhi's air quality has shifted from the 'severe' category to the 'poor' range. Today it has further improved to "moderate" category.

🌱An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, and 401-500 is severe.

🎀Meanwhile, Today's minimum temperature in Delhi is recorded 13.8°c (degrees celsius), and the maximum temperature is expected to go as high as 21°c (degrees celsius). Throughout the day, the temperature is likely to hover around 15°c.

Himachal Pradesh: Thousands of Tourists Stranded

⭕In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rainfall and snowfall were recorded in at least six districts of the state on Friday, including Lahul-Spiti, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, and Kinnaur.

💞"Due to fresh snowfall today on 27.12.2024, about 1000 tourists and other vehicles were stuck in Solang Nala. There were about 5000 tourists in these vehicles. The vehicles and tourists have been rescued by Kullu Police and taken to safe places. The rescue operation is still going on," Kullu police said in a post on X.

ﷺMeanwhile, Today's minimum temperature in Himachal Pradesh is recorded 7°c (degrees celsius), and the maximum temperature is expected to go as high as 12°c (degrees celsius).

𝔉Severe cold is prevailing in most areas of Rajasthan and due to the effect of western disturbance, moderate rain occurred at many places on Friday. Dense fog prevailed in many areas on Friday as well. Many areas have been in the grip of severe cold for many days.
