The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s selection committee will pick and name India's squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy as well as the ODIs against England on Saturday (January 18, 2025). There has been a lot of speculation regarding the squad and possible changes, especially after the BCCI review meeting involving head coach Gautam Gambhir. The board's '10-point policy'🍒 to foster discipline and unity has added fuel to the fire.
While senior batters Rohit꧂ and Virat Kohli are expected to continue to form the batting core of India's ODI squad, there are other established players whose future in the 50-over format could be debated when the selectors gather to pick the squad for the Champions Trophy and the England ODIs preceding that.
🦩KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja's presence in the side is reportedly not a surety for the Champions Trophy, which starts February 19, even though they were a part of the 50-over World Cup.
🌸Since the 2023 ODI WC final, India have played six ODIs and while Shami and Jadeja were rested, Rahul was included for both the away bilateral engagements against South Africa and Sri Lanka.
ꩵAgainst Sri Lanka, however, Rahul was dropped in the middle of the series after failing to get going in the middle overs. His sluggish half century after using up 100-plus deliveries was also much talked about as India lost on November 19, 2023 against Australia.
♕It is further reported by PTI that Yashasvi Jaiswal has a very bright chance of making it to the ODI squad. His inclusion would ensure a left-handed batter in the top four.
⛎The squad will be announced at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 12:30pm IST. The press conference featuring the announcement will be live streamed on the Hotstar app and website in India, and telecast on the Star Sports TV channels.
