As stated in the order, the renaming comes in order to "promote the extraordinary heritage of our Nation and ensure future generations of American🧸 citizens celebrate the legacy of our American꧅ heroes."
While the first two sections of the order call for an overhaul of the system and new appointments, the t💧hird section dive🦩s into the process of renaming.
Mount Denali To Be Renamed To Mount McKinley
The order calls for reinstating Mount Denali as Moꦉunt McKinley, named after William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States. As per reports, McKinley led the US to victory in the Spanish-American w🐈ar.
In 1917, North Americ𓃲a’s highest peak was🐎 named after McKinley. However, under President Obama, the peak was renamed to Mount Denali in 2015.
The name of this peak has been a controversy for decades. As per the National Park Service, as many Alaskans called fo𒐪r the park and peak to be renamed Mount Denali - which would ensure that the "true old Indian n🔯ame is preserved".
However, after Trump'🦹s return, the name Mount McKinley will be restored. As per the orders, the nam♓e should be reinstated within 30 days of the order.
Only th🅺e name of the peak will be changed, the park will continue to be called and referred to as the Denali National Park and Preserve.
Gulf Of America
The order 🥃added that the Gulf Of Mexico will be renamed to the Gulf🅷 of America as the area has remained an "indelible part of the US".
The order adds that the gulf remains a crucial par🎃t of American trade and the country's national ecꩲonomy and hence should reflect the same in its name.
"The Gulf will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping America’s future and the global economy, and in recognition of this flourishing economic resource and its critical importance to our Nation’s economy and its people, I am directing that it officially be renamed the Gulf of America," the order reads. This name ꦬchange should also be done within 30 days of the executive order.
Amid his name-changing spree, Trump also made mentions of his desire to purchase the Panama Canal.
Speaking at the C🎐apitol Rotunda, Trౠump claimed that the US has spent "more money than ever spent on a project before and lost 38,000 lives in the building of the Canal."
The president also claimed that the Canal, which has been given to Panama, is 🥀now being controlled by🍌 China and the US will "take it back."
