The Supreme Court of India has stated that all doctors who were on protest due to the RG Kar rape and murder case, will not be marked absent from duty. In a ruling🍌 favouring the protesting doctors, the SC ruled that attendance shall be regularised if they resumed work after the bench order in August 2024.
The matter was heard by a bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. During 💜the hearing, SC asked hospitals, including Delhi AIIMS to regularise doctors' absence during protests over the rape and murder of a⛄ resident doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.
Noting that the majority of the hospitals had regularized doctors' attendance while some marked them as𝔍 absent from du𝓡ty or on leave.
"We deem it appropriate to clarify that in case the doctors have joined after 22.8.24 will be regularised and not treated as absence from duty, this direction is issued in peculiar fac꧟ts and circumstances and shall not be treated as precedent," said CJI Khann𒆙a.
Thousands of doctors launched a protest following the brutal rape ꦦand murder of a 31-yea🐼r-old resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
Doctors across India announced a strike and boycotted work to demand justice for their colleague. However, on August 22, 2024, the Supreme Court iꦍssued an order asking the doctors to resume work.
