While India and Australia battle it out in the Boxing Day Test Down Under, another major cricket fixture is set to commence on the same day in neighbouring New Zealand. The Super Smash (men's) 2024-25 season will begin on December 26 at Seddon Park, Hamilton. (More Cricket News)
What's special about the tournament this time is the fact that it will celebrate the 20th season of T20 cricket in New Zealand. The league will thus feature a nostalgic twist, with all teams wearing retro-style jerseys, in honour of th🐷e first-ever T20 international match between New Zealand and Australia at Eden Park two whole decades back.
Super Smash 2024-25 Format
The men's T20 league comprises six teams: Auckland Aces, Canterbury, Central Stags, Northern Districts, Otago Volts and Wellington Firebirds. There will be a preliminary stage and the playoffs, which include the final. After double round-robin games on a home-and-away basis, the top three teams make it to t꧙he playoffs.
While the top-ranked team will advance straight to the summit meeting, the second and third-placed teams will lock horns in the eliminator. The winner proceeds to🌺 the final. Every win will award teams four points, while no results and ties will give both sides two points.
There is no Super Over in the league phase, but the knockout playoffs will have the provisi💯on for them.
Super Smash 2024-25 Schedule
The league phases begins with a clash between Northern Brave and Auckland Aces on December 26. Each team will play the other 🏅five twice in the league stage that ends on January 30, 2025, with the last game between Wellington Firebirds and Norther Brave in Wellington.
The 30 league games will be followed by the knockout playoffs. The eli🌄minator will be played on February 1 at the Cello Basin Reserve and the f♊inal on February 2 at the same venue. You can check out the full schedule .
