A 21-year-old youth had allegedly killed three me☂mbers of his family in the middle of the night.
A 21-year-old student has been arrested for killing his parents and sister and killin꧅g them for opposing his addiction to online gaming. The accused used stones to smash the heads of his family members; he tried to hide after committing the crime but was later taken into police custody.
The deceased were identified as Prasant Sethy alias Kalia (65), his wife Kanaklata (62) and daughter Rosalin (25). The accused Surjyakant Sethy was trying to flee but was arrested by police from nearby Girls High School in the vicinity.ꦅ
The crime took place in𝔍 Jayabada at Dhobasahi within Sadar police limits around 2.30 am. Neighbours saw the bodies lying in a pool of blood in the morning and informed police.
On getting information, a team led by SP Bhawani Sankar Udgata, Jagatsinghpur station IIC Prabhas Sahu along with 🌜a scientific team reached the spot and started investigation.
"We have received inputs about the a🃏ccused being mentally unstable. Po𓂃lice are probing all angles and further details will be shared after the postmortem of the bodies are carried out," the SP said while addressing mediapersons.
According to the SP, the accused, Surjyakant Sethy hid near the village but🗹 was later arrested; he also suspected that the accused had a mental problem. According to the villagers, the 21-year-old had confessed to killing his parents and sister. A preliminary investigation revealed that accused Surjyakant Sethy was annoyed with his parents and sister for "opposing him playing online games on his mobile phone", Jagatsinghpur Police Stat🔴ion inspector-in-charge Prabhas Sahu said to PTI.
