🦹In his acceptance speech, Tazewell called it ''absolutely astounding'' and thanked the Academy for this ''very significant honour''. He further said, ''I’m the first Black man to receive the costume design award for my work on Wicked. I’m so proud of this''.
🎶He also thanked everyone in the U.K, as well as his family. “My Ozian muses, Cynthia (Erivo) and Ariana (Grande), I love you so much – all the other cast, thank you thank you thank you, for trusting me with bringing your characters to life. This is everything. Director Jon M. Chu and producer (Marc Platt), thank you," he added.
🌳Tazewell has already won the Critics Choice Awards, Costume Designers Guild Awards, British Academy Film Awards and the BAFTAs for his work in the the 2024 film.
Ruth E. Carter became the first Black Woman when she bagged her first Oscar for 2018 film Black Panther and then again for the 2022 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
This year, other nominees in the Best Costume category included Arianne Phillips (A Complete Unknown), Janty Yates and David Crossman (Gladiator II), Lisy Christl (Conclave) and Linda Muir (Nosferatu).
