A 21-year-old student has been arrested for killing his parents and sister and killing them for oppos♑ing his addiction to online gaming. The accused used stones to smash the heads🉐 of his family members; he tried to hide after committing the crime but was later taken into police custody.
The deceased were identified as Prasant Sethy alias Kalia (65), his wife Kanaklata (62) and daughter Rosalin (25). The accused Surjyakant Sethy was trying to fle𒅌e but was arrested by poli🌼ce from nearby Girls High School in the vicinity.
The crime took place in Jayabada at Dhobasahi within Sadar police limits around 2.30 am. Neighbours saw the bo꧑dies lying in a pool of blood in the morning and informed ওpolice.
On getting information, a team led by SP Bhawani Sankar Udgata, Jagatsinghpur station IIC Prabhas Sahu along with a scientific team reached the spot and started🐽 ไinvestigation.
"We have received inputs about the accused being mentally unstable. Police are probing all angles and further details will be shared after the post⭕mortem of the bodies are carried out," the SP said while addressing mediapersons.
According to the SP, the accused, Surjyakant Sethy hid near the village but was later arrested; he also suspected that the accused had a mental problem. According to the𒀰 villagers, the 21-year-old had confessed to killing his parents and sister. A preliminary investigation revealed that accused Surjyakant Sethy was annoyed with his parents and sister for "opposing him playing online games on his mobile phone", Jagatsinghpur Police Station inspector-in-charge Prabhas Sahu said to PTI.
