The Opposition on January 31 dismissed President Droupadi Murmu꧒'s address to a joint sitting of Parliament as "directionless" and a "document of lies" even as ruling BJP and allies welcomed it saying it presents a vision for 'viksit Bharat'.

ꦉAs per reports, the Opposition said the President's address should provide a direction to the country but this was just a document of government propaganda.

🐎"This is a directionless speech, no new direction was shown to the nation. Old schemes of the government were repeated, so it appeared that the President was tired of speaking. There was nothing in the speech," Trinamool Congress' Lok Sabha member Saugata Roy told reporters outside Parliament.

President - Congress Controversy

Earlier in the day, President Murmu addressed a joint sitting of the Parliament 🍬to mark the beginning of the Budget Session. Speaking to reporters after the session, Sonia Gandhi, former Congress chief, said the President looked exhausted after her long customary speech. "The President was getting very tired by the end. She could hardly speak, poor thing," Gandhi said.

๊The BJP quickly labelled the comments as "derogatory" and pressed for an apology.

Even PM Narendra Modi ღcondemned the remarks on President Murmu. On this PM Modi in a rally in Dwarka said: “Look at their arrogance, they insulted President Droupadi Murmu, who comes from a tribal background. Congress has insulted all those who rise from the poor, Dalits, tribals, and OBCs.”
