ℱWith just a few weeks left for the much awaited Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that his party would take decisive steps to extend the benefits of free electricity and water to tenants if re-elected to power.
🤪"Wherever I go, I meet people living on rent who say they benefit from good schools and hospitals but are deprived of free electricity and water schemes," Kejriwal told at a press conference, as per PTI.
💟Assuring a resolution to the issue, Kejriwal said, "We will ensure that after the elections, tenants, many of whom belong to the Purvanchal region, will also enjoy the benefits of free electricity and water."
Free treatment for elderly people
🥂Kejriwal in December announced free treatment for senior citizens at all government and private hospitals. According to the national convener of the ruling party in Delhi, free treatment will be available for people above the age of 60 as part of the 'Sanjeevani Yojana' once his party retains power in the national capital in 2025 elections.
🐽"It is now our duty to take care of you. You people have worked hard to take the country forward," the former Delhi chief minister said.
✤"There will be no upper limit on the cost of treatment. Registration for this will start in a day or two. AAP workers will come to your home for registration. They will give you a card, keep it safe. Once we come into power after the elections, this policy will be implemented," Mr Kejriwal said.
Why no Ayushman Bharat in Delhi?
Back in October, answering the question over why Delhi refuses to implement the centrally sponsored Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Kejriwal said there was no need for the scheme in the national capital as the AAP government provides free treatment of up to rupees 1 crore to all city residents, as per a report by The Hindu.
🌊“Every resident of Delhi, whether they have a simple cold or need hospitalisation, receives treatment, medication, and tests free of charge — no limits, no caps. In Delhi, whether it’s a five-rupee tablet or a treatment costing ₹1 crore, everything is provided free of charge”, he said.
“If medicines, tests, and treatment are all free in Delhi, then there is no need for the Ayushman Bharat scheme here. Modiji💛 should study the Delhi healthcare scheme and implement it across the country,” Kejriwal further added.
Women welfare scheme
With Assembly polls drawing closer, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal ꦏannounced the rollout of the Delhi government's Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana and promised to raise the monthly aid from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,100 post-elections.
"This scheme is for empowering women and addressing their financial needs. While the BJP calls it free 'revdis,' I see it as a step towards strengthening our society. The BJP ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚasked from where the money would come, but I said we would give free electricity, and we did it," Kejriwal said.
Scholarship for free foreign education of Dalit students
Arvind Kejriwal in December announced an Ambedkar scholarship for free foreign education of the city's Dalit students. The announcement came amid a political controversy concerning BR Ambedkar following Union Home Minister Amit Shah's objectionable remarks in the Rajya Sabha on December 17.
🌳Explaining the benefits of the scheme, Kejriwal said, "Under the scheme, any Dalit student from Delhi will be able to receive education in foreign universities. If they get admission in any such university, the Delhi government will bear the entire cost of their education, travel and accommodation."
⛦Furthermore, the scheme will also benefit the children of government employees, said the former CM of Delhi without elaborating how and when the scholarships would be given.
