Ange Postecoglou said Tottenham defended "as well as we have all season" during their 2-0 win over Brentford, saluting an "outstanding effort" by his players. (More Football News)
Spurs claimed their first Premier League win since De🎃cember 15 - while ending a run of four straigh😼t defeats - at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Vitaly Janelt turned Son Heung-min's first-half corner into his own net, while 🌠Pape Sarr put the result beyond doubt three minutes from time.
Although Brentford registered 38 crosses to the visitors' nine, Postecoglou's si✱de restricted their opponents to just four shots on target, while Yoane Wissa struck the woodwork early in the second half.
And Posಌtecoglou paid tribute to his players, who recorded only their fifth Premier League c🌸lean sheet of the campaign.
"It's always a challenge here, especially at home, [Brentford] are hard to beat," he said. "[We] needed a big effort again today. We put that in, they had a lot of set-pieces, and we dealt with 🍒them awfully well.
"I think we defended as well꧒ as we have all season, and we🍌 still had the quality to hurt them the other way. Outstanding effort by the players.
"I don't think they had many clear-cut chances. There were a lot of balls in the box, but when you're throwing them in from the touchline, you can﷽'t avoid that.
"I t🐟hought the lads handled that part of it really well. Great football and credit to the lads."
Archie Gray, who became the 🍃second-youngest player to start 10 Premier League games for Spurs at 18 years and 327 days old, hopes they can build momentum after their morale-boosting victory.
"Obviously, it's a massive win," he told Premier League Productions. "We were in a difficult time. We've still got loads of games to prove that we can carry this winnౠing form on, so it's important.
"At times this season, just for five minutes, we've lost concentration. As soon as that goal went in, we knew we can't make the same mistakes. Once we got to half-time, we thought we ൩had to keep disciplined for the second half.
"It was a really good clean sheet, and hopefully, we can keep it 🐲going.𝕴"
Brentford had 20 shotsಌ and 2.29 expected goals (xG) against Spurs, both of which are their highest totals in a Premier League game wherꦇe they have failed to score.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank hailed Tottenham's defensive efforts while feeling🌸 the Bees were unfortunate to suffer a fifth defeat in six home games 🔴across all competitions.
"We did a lot of things right, but we need to ask what we could do more,&🍃quot; he said. "A lot of things didn't drop for us.
"We created a lot, produced more💝 than 30𓆉 crosses, 20 shots, but we didn't create enough big chances, we had a lot of half-chances. It is down to very good defending, maybe the best defending of their box all season.
"Sometimes, one goal decides it a little🧔 bit. They scored from a set-piece. On the flip side, we🐼 don't score from any of our set-pieces. If we'd got in front, it might have been a different game."
