Hours after US President Donald Trump imposed 25 percent tariffs on Mexico and Canada, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister ♊Justin Trudeau have imposed tit-for-tat tariffs on Washington DC.
Donald Trump had warned both countries he will be imposing 25 percent tariffs for "their failure to block the flow of drugs and illegal aliens" into the US. However, after Trump's decision on Saturday, both M𓄧exico and Canada have hit back with their own tariffs💖 on US imports.
Mexico Announces Retaliatory Tariffs As 'Plan B'
"We categorical💫ly reject the White House's slander against the Mexican government of having alliances with criminal organizations, as well as any intention of intervention in our territory," state⛎d President Sheinbaum.
"If such an alliance exists anywhere, it is in the United States armories th⛦at sell high-powered weapons to these criminal groups, as demonstrated by the United States Department of Justice it♒self in January of this year," she added on social media platform X.
Adding that Mexico will continue to seek collaboration from the US as🐬 opposed to confrontation, Sheinbaum announced retaliatory tariffs on the US.
"I instruct the Secretary of Economy to implement Pl🧜an B that we have been working on, which includes tariff and non-tariff measures in defence of Mexico’s interests," she said🃏.
Canada Is 'Ready', Says Trudeau As He Hits Back With 25% Tariffs
'Canadians are a little perplexed as to why our closest friend and neighbour is choosing to target us as opposed to other nations," said outgoing PM Justin Trudeau as he announced tit-for-tat tariffs.
"(US-Canada) ties are going through a difficult time now but I kꦆnow our countries will make it through this because we have the most successful partnership the world has seen," he added further.
Addressing the nation on Saturday evening, Trudeau𓆏 stated that Canada will be imposing 25 percent tariffs on US goods in response to Trum🃏p's decision.
The tariffs will be imposed on US goods worth 155 billion Caඣnadian dollars. Speaking to reporters, the Liberal leader stated that tariffs on C$30 billion would take effect from Tuesday and the r𒉰emaining C$125 billion in the next 21 days.
