Durban Super Giants defeated Joburg Super Kings in a rain-marred encounter in the final league stage match of both the sides in the SA20 2025 on Saturday, February 1. (More Cricket News)
The Super Giants seemed set to get an easy victory when they had reduced the Super Kings to 87/6 after 13 overs. The Super Kings still needed 59 more runs in just 18 balls and the target seemed out of reach. However, Donovan Ferreira smashed opposition skipper Keshav Maharaj for 23 runs in the 14th over and followed it up with a 16-run ov👍er against Naveen Ul Haq. The assault left 21 runs off the final over which Maharaj trusted Dwaine Pretorius to defend.
Pretorius got the wicket of Ferreira on the third ball of the final o🌳ver to wrap up a consolation win for his side. The win helps Super Giants finish with a victory, just the second in the 10 games they played this season.
The loss does not affect the Super Kings who will face defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape i🥃n the Eliminator.
Earlier, Joburg Super Kings had won the toss and opted to bowl at The Wanderer🎐s Stadium in Johannesburg.
The Super Giants lost both their openers in the fifth over after a decent start. However, by the end of the powerplay they were 39/3. The innings was then resurrected by Heinrich Klaasen who hit a♛ 47-ball 76. Enroute his unbeaten inni🦋ngs, he also became the first player in the three seasons of the SA20 to cross the 1000-run mark.
Klaasen's outstanding 𒅌innings🍸 helped the Super Giants post an above par total of 173/4 in 20 overs.
Rain intervened early during Super Kings' chase and the target was revised to 146 in 16 overs. However, Noor Ahmad 🍃made it tough for the Super Kings with his exceptional෴ spell where he took three wickets. The Afghan was also adjudged the Player of the Match for his brilliant spell.
Ultimatꦑely, the Super Kings could ꧑reach only 135/9 and lost the game by 11 runs.
