The Frenchman was on hand to turn in the rebound after Maxence Lacroix thumped a header against the crossbar in the 64th minute, before getti🅠ng his second one minute from time, finishing off a blistering counter-attack.
Since Oliver Glasner's first game in cha🐲rge of Palace in February 2024, Mateta has scored 23 Premier League goals, with only Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer and Mohamed Salah netting more in that time.
Meanwhile, no player has scored more Premier League goals in 2025 than his six🔯, level with Chris Wood and Phil Foden.
"I'm feeling 🌞fantastic!" Mateta, who also missed a glorious chance in the first half, said. "We won these three points, we worked hard, and I am very happy.
"We know how [Man Utd] play with the new manager; we worked on🌊 a plan during the week, and we stuck to the plan. We listened to the gaffer and worked hard, and I think we deserve this win.
"I just put my head down and workꦺed hard. I sometimes think, when you do that, you get the rew๊ard."
After failing to win any of their first 10 visits to Old Traffo𒆙rd in the Premier League, a run which included nine straight defeats, Palace have now won four 🍌of their last six away matches against United (lost two).
In fact, they have won on back-to-back visits to Old Trafford for only the secon🎃d time in the competition.
Palace alw🌞ays looked in control on Sunday, resolutely defending before taking their chances when they came in the second half, and Glasner𝕴 was thrilled with Mateta's influence.
"We don't ﷽always talk because he knows what we demand of him. W🧸ith his two goals today, he is amazing in the box," Glasner told BBC Match of the Day.
"He has the feeling that a number nine must have in the box. He makes so many runs where he doesn't get the ball. You need to suffer as a striker, because you m🍃ake so many runs where you don't get the ball. He gets the reward, and it decides the game for us.
"We're just enjoying this momen♐ﷺt, a big win. We defended really well; we struggled in some moments at the start and after half-time.
"We scored from a set-play, but had twཧo or three big chances in the first half, and we had to keep the belief.
"We knew there would be moments where we had to survive because every team has this at Old Trafford. Big credit to the team and the players𓃲 today."
