A patient died after a fire ꦅbroke out at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Delhi's Brahm Shakti Hospital in Rohini on Saturday morning, officials said. The fire has since been doused completely.
The fire on the third floor of Brahm Shakti Hospital, Pooth Khurd, was reported at 5 am and nine fire teဣnders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames🌞.
Everyone was safely rescued except for 64-year-old Holi, who died died due to the disruption in power and oxygen support, said officials. Deputy Commissioner o♛f Police (Rohini) Pranav Tayal said he was admitted to the ICU and was on ventilator support.
Officials added the fire was apparently caused due to a short circuit. DCP Tayal♉ added taht local police first reached the spot and called fire tenders.
All w𓆉ꦜere safely rescued except one patient, who , the DCP said.
Holi, a kidney patient and resident of Prem Nagar, was taken out b𝔉ut he died due to the disruption in power and oxygen support, DCP Tayal said.
No operational fire fighting system was found 🍌in place and the f⛦ire exit door was found locked or blocked, said officials.
A Delhi health department official, however, said the hospital was in possession of a fire N🤪OC. On the fire equipment not working, the official said it is the responsibiꦍlity of the fire department to assess the equipment.
A case under Indian Penal Code Sections 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter), 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery), an൲d 304A (causing death by negligence) is being registered in this regard at the Vijay Vihar police station, said DCP Tayal.
Fir﷽e incidents were reported at Safdarjung ꦬHospital in South Delhi and at Makkar Multispeciality Hospital in the Eastern Delhi on May 27 and there was no casualty.
There has been spurt in fire accidents in recent weeks. In addition to the fire in Delhi's Mundka in which 27 people died, fire🎐s hꦫave also been reported in Jhandewalan market in which shops were reportedly gutted and in a factory in Delhi's Mustafabad in which one man died and six were injured.
A fire was also reported in Union Public Servic🦹e Commission building in Central Delhi on Friday but it later ꩵturned out to be a mock drill.
