♓A man attacked five people including attendants and devotees inside the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Friday. The reason behind the attack has not been revealed by the police yet.
𒐪According to reports, the condition of one injured person who is a Sikh youth from Bathinda is reportedly serious and is being treated at Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research in Vallah along with the other victims.
Who Attacked And How?
ꦑThe Indian Express said that the police has not revealed the identity of the attacker yet but mentioned that he was with another person during the attack.
꧙A police officer told IE, "The second accused allegedly conducted recce along with the one who attacked devotees."
ไA Hindustan Times report meanwhile said that the assailant has been identified as Zulfan who was carrying iron pipes inside the Temple.
꧙The accused was held by the Temple authorities with the help of CCTV footage inside the premises and then was handed over to the police.
ဣAs per reports, the attack took place inside the oldest Guru Ram Das inn near the community kitchen around noon when Sikh devotees had gathered to pay obeisance. Today was an important day for Sikhs as they offer praying at the at the Golden Temple which is called Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib on the occasion of the new Nanakshahi year.
Victims Admitted To Hospital
🐻There were five victims in total and out of them one is in critical condition in the ICU at the Guru Ramdas Hospital.
ꦯAccording to the police, among the five victims, two of them were sewadars (attendants) of the Golden Temple while three others were devotees who hailed from Mohali, Bathinda and Patiala respectively.
ꦏOne of the doctors at Guru Ramdas Hospital told ANI, "As per the statements given to us by the patients, an unknown assailant assaulted the victims with a rod. Five patients were sent to us, out of which one is serious and is in the ICU. He has been given stitches. Once he becomes stable, CT Scan would be conducted. The other four are in stable condition."
What Did Police And Authorities Say?
🐼Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee who manages the Golden Temple has condemned the attack. They claimed that it could be part of a 'larger conspiracy'.
♑SGPC secretary Partap Singh told IE, "SGPC has urged the police administration to take immediate and stringent action against the culprits and to disclose their identities to the public."
💞He added that the injured were taken to SGPC-run Sri Guru Ramdas Hospital.
𝄹Kotwali SHO Sarmel Singh was quoted by HT saying, "Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has handed over a person named Zulfan to the police. There was a clash inside the Golden Temple premises, and people of both sides suffered injuries. The workers of SGPC have also been injured. Action will be taken according to law."
