All work could be categorised as non-traditional forღ women. They have always been expected to take care of the household. Each time a woman has ventured out into the world, she has had to fight to exist, to flourish, and to be. They have been confined to the🧸ir own category with a prefix—“women”—such as “women filmmakers”, “women directors”, “women drivers”, and so on.
Consider the fight for a hu꧂mble pocket. It carries the universe. For us.
As an editor, there is always contempt to contend with. Newsrooms are unkind places for women journalists, much like the ꦅworld in general. You are expected to listen, to comply, and if you do not, you are called a slave-driver, a fool, a non-person—by men and even some women who have yet to realise that even p♋ockets were once denied to us. There are too many expectations placed upon us. Expectations that are oppressive. We must shake them off. Like handbags.
This Interna🥂tional Women's Day, let us raise a toast to the pocket in women’s clothing—for the women who smash expec𓆏tations and gender roles.
