The fifth edition of Transylvania Open WTA 250 has begun, with the women's singles qualifiers done and dusted and the main draw to be played from February 3-9 on a hard surface at BTarena in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Watch the tennis tournament live. (More Tennis News)
The event will feature former world number one Simona Halep, who is currently outside the top 800 and playing her first tournament of the season. Home favourite Halep faces 𓃲Italy's world number 66 Lucia Bronzetti in the round of 32.
Earlier known as the Winners Open, the Transylvania tourney will have five matches on t𝕴he first day of the main draw, that is February 3. The pick of these matches is perhaps the one between No. 63-ranked Mayar Sherif and No. 64 Viktoriya Tomova. The Halep vs Bronzetti is on the day after.
A total of 24 players ranked in the world’s top 180 competed on February 1 and 2 for six spots in the main singles draw. There is considerable home participation, with six Romanian players in the main si♈ngles draw and five in the doubles draw.
